The idea of the Superblocks originally comes from Barcelona and has since inspired the whole world: combine several blocks of houses into a so-called 'Superblock' and block out through traffic. Your neighbourhood will once again become a living space, an urban space in the original sense: as a meeting place for everyone - for old and young, poor and rich, for neighbourhood and interaction, for recreation, playgrounds, sport and dance, for urban gardening, trees, green spaces and much more.
The residents are enthusiastic and now live in a place that has become healthier, greener, quieter, more social and safer. This increase in attractiveness is measurable: the neighbourhoods are popular, fluctuation is falling, the number of residents is rising and is more heterogeneous overall, as families stay in the neighbourhood. The length of time spent in public spaces is also increasing, which benefits local businesses: more walk-in customers and spontaneous visits to shops and cafés generate more sales.
